Should Uxbridge build a legacy for educational excellence? UXBRIDGE – One of the major projects being considered by the Uxbridge’s Future Committee is to create an Uxbridge Educational Foundation. Initially suggested by Senator Richard T. Moore in his open letter to Uxbridge residents a year ago, the idea of establishing an educational foundation is being coordinated by Future Committee member Andrew Coles. The purpose of a local educational foundation is to serve as a mechanism for expanding educational opportunities for Uxbridge students through the funding of innovative initiatives, community involvement, and workplace partnerships. Among the areas likely to be supported by such a foundation are: technology, the arts, cultural enrichment, civic engagement and community service, professional development of faculty and staff. In an era of limited school budgets, it has become increasingly difficult to fund the programs that contribute to an outstanding school curriculum and high quality, well-rounded educational experience. The Uxbridge’s Future Committee hopes that by developing a partnership among key community leaders, local businesses, and other interested residents that alternative resources can be found to encourage gifted students to excel and to improve the overall educational program for all Uxbridge students. Any resident interested in helping to form the Uxbridge Educational Foundation is encouraged to contact Andrew Coles at 508-243-5813 or Andrew.Coles@umassmed.edu or through the Uxbridge’s Future Committee web site: www.uxbridgefuture.com by clicking on “contact us” and submitting their name and contact information specifying an interest in helping form the educational foundation. |
